“Once the game was over…”: Gautam Gambhir on Naveen ul Haq and Virat Kohli’s IPL 2023 spat

Gautam Gambhir

On the cricket field, Gautam Gambhir is a fiery character. Gautam Gambhir has never shied away from taking the aggressive route, whether for the Indian cricket team or as a mentor to his players.

Gautam Gambhir recently made headlines for his on-field altercation with former Indian cricket teammate Sreesanth during a Legends League Cricket match. Before that, Gautam Gambhir’s only well-publicized on-field altercation was with Virat Kohli.

Gautam Gambhir was seen talking aggressively to Virat Kohli after an IPL 2023 match between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The latter involved in a spat with LSG’s Naveen Ul Haq while playing for RCB.

“Naveen Ul Haq controversy, please tell me what happened?” Gautam Gambhir interviewed on an ANI podcast.

“As a coach, no one can walk over my players. I hold a very different viewpoint. I had no right to intervene during the game, but once it was over, if someone got into a heated argument with my players, I had every right to defend them,” Gautam Gambhir said.

Later, during the Cricket World Cup 2023, Virat Kohli and Naveen Ul Had met on the cricket field, where they made peace and hugged it out.

Gautam Gambhir’s fiery personality was on display again on Wednesday during a Legends League match, a tournament for retired cricketers. During a match between the India Capitals and the Gujarat Giants, he and Sreesanth exchanged long stares. That wasn’t all, as they were seen talking animatedly on another occasion.

On Thursday, LLC stated the dispute between the two players, stating that an internal investigation into the violation of the code of conduct will be conducted.

“The incident that has been the talk in the cricketing world violates the code of conduct and necessary action will be taken against all that have violated the very clear rules stated by the league’s Code of Conduct and Ethics Committee,” the company said in a statement.

“Legends League Cricket strives to maintain the spirit of cricket and sportsmanship and will conduct an internal investigation into the code of conduct violation.” Any misconduct, both on and off the field, including on social media platforms, will be strictly prosecuted.

The code of conduct clearly states that players who bring disrepute to the league, the spirit of the game, or the teams they represent will face disciplinary action. We make our position very clear and will continue to work to share the game with millions of cricket fans across the country and around the world,” Syed Kirmani, Head of Code of Conduct & Ethics Committee, Legends League Cricket, said in an official statement.
