Arunachal Pradesh’s Wushu Athlete Provides Update on Location Following Visa Denial for Hangzhou Asian Games

India was handed a major setback when three members of its Wushu team were unable to travel to Hangzhou for the multi-sport continental event, which included the opening ceremony of the Asian Games 2023. The Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (HAGOC), which also serves as an entry visa, presented the accreditation cards to the three female athletes, Nyeman Wangsu, Onilu Tega, and Mepung Lamgu. However, they were unable to download it, which is essential for when they arrive.

The team was supposed to fly off on Wednesday, but the rest of the team and the coaching staff had to board the plane without them since they couldn’t download their document.

Lamgu provided a significant update to admirers on Twitter after they expressed concern for her as a result of the development. She disclosed that she was still in touch with her family while residing at a SAI hostel. “I’m fine, and I’m currently staying at SAI Hostel. There is nothing to worry about because I stay in touch with my family. We appreciate your concern and assistance. She tweeted a picture with the caption, “In the frame: Having brunch with SAI officers.

The same group of athletes were denied stapled visas, which prevented them from competing at the World University Games in Chengdu, China, in July of this year. China doesn’t recognize India’s authority over Arunachal Pradesh because of the stapled visas. Additionally, China’s claim to the northeastern state has always been disputed by India. In addition, the Indian wushu squad boycotted the competition.

Arindam Bagchi, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of External Affairs, discussed India’s position on the matter in a media interview. “In keeping with our long-standing and unwavering stance, India vehemently rejects treating Indian nationals differently based on their place of residence or ethnicity. Arunachal Pradesh is and always has been a vital, intrinsic component of India. Strong protests have been made against China’s intentional and selective blockage of some of our athletes in New Delhi and Beijing. Both the spirit of the Asian Games and the rules governing its conduct, which expressly forbid discrimination against participants from member states, are broken by China’s behavior, according to him.
