Hasaranga, 26, played in just four Tests after making his Test debut against South Africa in December 2020.

More than two years ago, in April 2021, he played in his final Test at home against Bangladesh.

On Tuesday, August 15, Hasaranga informed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) of his decision to retire, and the board approved it.

The CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, Mr. Ashley De Silva, said: “We will accept his decision and are confident that Hasaranga will be a vital part of our white-ball program going forward.”

Since making his ODI debut in 2017, Hasaranga has been Sri Lanka’s white-ball specialist and is an essential component of their limited-overs lineup.

The all-rounder has played for his nation in 48 ODIs and 58 T20Is, taking 158 wickets overall and amassing 1365 runs.

Hasaranga recently played a crucial role in Sri Lanka qualifying for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 when they won the qualifier against Zimbabwe. Hasaranga finished the competition as the highest wicket-taker with 22 victims.
