Rahmanullah Gurbaz Receives an Aggressive Farewell from Naseem Shah in the LPL 2023 Opening Match

LPL-2023

On Sunday, July 30, the fourth season of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) got underway with Jaffna Kings and Colombo Strikers squaring off. In the tournament’s opening match, which was played in Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium, the former team won by a score of 21 runs.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz of Afghanistan provided the Jaffna Kings with a brilliant start after being given the opportunity to bat first. The joy was, however, short-lived when Gurbaz was dismissed by Pakistan’s Naseem Shah following his quick 21 runs off 11 deliveries.

Ramesh Mendis made an outstanding grab to eliminate Gurbaz, sprinting from mid-on to make the catch. Shah couldn’t help but talk to Gurbaz as he left because he was so excited.

Gurbaz calmly moved towards the dugout without responding to the Pakistani pacer, choosing not to escalate the situation.

Early in the game, Gurbaz experienced good fortune when, on just one run, he was granted a fortuitous respite. Naseem Shah edged the ball heavily in his opening over, but it rapidly sped past the slip fielder and toward the boundary lines.

In terms of the game, Jaffna Kings posted 173 runs with the loss of five wickets after being given the opportunity to bat first. The team’s leading scorer, Towhid Hridoy, amassed 54 runs from 39 balls.

Naseem Shah, a Colombo pacer, was particularly expensive during his spell, bowling ten overs and giving up 30 runs while only taking one wicket. In response, despite skipper Niroshan Dickwella scoring a half-century, the Strikers fell 21 runs short of the objective.
