Before the Ashes series, Moeen Ali is considering a comeback to test cricket

After contacted by England’s team management for the forthcoming Ashes series, which begins on June 16, all-rounder Moeen Ali, who had announced his retirement from Test cricket in September 2021, is reportedly considering rejoining the team. During England’s Test victory against Ireland on Saturday, Jack Leach suffered a low back stress fracture and forced to withdraw from the Ashes series, which was a major loss for England. In order to replace the injured Jack Leach for the upcoming set of tests, the management of England reportedly sought Moeen Ali. The selection committee for England is also considering additional candidates like Liam Dawson, Rehan Ahmed, and Will Jacks. Leach will be replaced, but that decision has not yet been made.

During the test series against India in September 2021, Moeen Ali announced his retirement from Test cricket. With 64 games under his belt, he has amassed 2,914 runs at an average of 28.29. In his test career, he has also taken 195 wickets.

The English spinner said in October that head coach McCullum had discussed a possible return to Test cricket with him, but he had turned down the idea.

On Moeen’s return, English pacer Broad referred to it as “hypothetical.”

“At this time, it’s just a theory. Broad told Sky Sports on Monday, “I don’t know if that’s been a phenomenon or a talking point in particular.

We are aware of Mo’s prodigious talent as a cricketer and how well she would fit into Stokes and Baz’s ideology. I don’t know if the selectors are considering him or if he would ever contemplate red-ball cricket again. He’s a excellent cricketer, though,” Broad continued.

Ollie Pope, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Stuart Broad, Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, Matthew Potts, Ollie Robinson, Dan Lawrence, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, and Josh Tongue make up the England team. Ben Stokes is the captain.
