India defeats Uzbekistan 22-0 in the opening game of the women’s junior Asia Cup

On Saturday in Kakamighara, India thrashed a weak Uzbekistan 22-0 to get off to a strong start in the women’s Junior Asia Cup. Annu hit a double hat-trick in the victory. Annu (13th, 29th, 30th, 38th, 43rd, 51st) was the star performer for India, while Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke (3rd, 56th); Mumtaz Khan (6th, 44th, 47th, 60th); Sunelita Toppo (17th, 17th); Manju Chorsiya (26th), Deepika Soreng (18th, 25th), Deepika (32nd, 44th, 46th, 57th), and Neelam (47th) were the others on target. India immediately launched an assault on the citadel of Uzbekistan, and when Vaishnavi (third) successfully converted a penalty corner, India took the lead.

Three minutes later, Mumtaz added another run to India’s lead with a field goal.

As the first quarter came to a close, India had a 3-0 advantage thanks to a goal by Annu.

India continued to control the game and score goals at will in the second quarter through Sunelita, Manju, Deepika, and Anu, taking a dominant 10-0 lead into halftime.

After the switch of ends, the outcome remained the same as Deepika scored one through a penalty corner and Annu added two more goals to give India a 13-0 advantage.

In the last seconds of the third quarter, Mumtaz and Deepika scored goals to make it 15-0.

India poured in seven more goals in the fourth quarter, making it one-way traffic. On June 5, India will face Malaysia in their second group match.
