Who Is Akash Madhwal, The Engineer Smashing IPL Bowling Records For Mumbai Indians?

Akash Madhwal

The youthful fast bowler picked up five wickets on Wednesday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, leading Mumbai Indians to an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 Eliminator victory over Lucknow Super Giants. He included in an elite group with illustrious names like Anil Kumble and Jasprit Bumrah thanks to his 5/5 in 3.3 overs. However, a story in Indian Express claims that four years ago, Akash Madhwal was playing tennis ball cricket and had never previously handled a red ball.

Akash Madhwal, an engineering graduate, selected by MI in 2022 to fill in for the injured Suryakumar Yadav and became the first cricketer from the state of Uttarakhand to participate in the IPL.

He attracted the attention of the current Uttarakhand coach Manish Jha and the then-coach Wasim Jaffer in 2019, and as a result, the quick bowler began his practice sessions with the red ball.

The domestic season that followed saw Madhwal have a Cinderella run, and prior to the domestic season of 2023, the fast bowler was rewarded for his performances when Uttarakhand named him the white-ball skipper.

Both cricket players are from the same region of Uttarakhand, and Madhwal received early coaching from Avtar Singh, who had also worked with Pant before he relocated to Delhi.

“He (Akash) was a backup bowler for the squad last year, and when Jofra left, I knew he had the abilities and the character to fill in for us. Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma stated following the game, “Over the years we have seen many men coming in from Mumbai Indians and playing for India.

When MI play Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2, Madhwal will want to maintain his development.
