India’s Rohan Bopanna loses the men’s doubles match at the Madrid Open

The Russian team of Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev defeated the Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden in a hard-fought men’s doubles final on Saturday.

In their second ATP Masters 1000 final of the year, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden, who were seeded seventh here, lost to the unseeded Russian team of Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev 6-3, 3-6, 10-3.

After being broken in the eighth game (5-3) of the first set, the Indian-Australian team was defeated. The Russian opponent’s serve was broken by Bopanna and Ebden in the fourth game of the second set, giving them a 3-1 advantage, and they went on to win the set 6-3. The Russians took an early 6-0 lead and went on to win the Super Tiebreaker 10-3.

After triumphs in the Qatar Open in Doha and the Indian Wells Tennis Tournament, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden were vying for their third tennis championship of the year.

Rohan’Bopanna competed in his fourth final of the year. Together with tennis Sania Mirza, he had advanced to the Australian Open 2023 mixed doubles final.

The Russian singles talents Khachanov and Rublev produced a powerful serving performance to win after 71 minutes of play in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Manolo Santana Stadium. They won 25% of their first-serve points (83%), and in the match tiebreaker, they dominated to win the match.

Khachanov and Rublev persevered on their way to the championship, winning four of their five matches in match tie-breaks. Additionally, they overcame top seeds Marcelo Arevalo/Jean-Julien Rojer and Nikola Mektic/Mate Pavic.
