The 1000th match of the IPL 2023 between the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals ended up being a memorable one thanks to the victorious run-chase by the Rohit Sharma-led team as well. As they competed at Wankhede, MI was given a massive 213-run target to reach after rookie Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed her first IPL century. Later, Tim David’s last-over heroics, in which he smacked three consecutive sixes off Jason Holder’s delivery, helped MI chase down the target with three balls to spare. Apart from this, Sandeep Sharma’s breathtaking catch to remove Suryakumar Yadav from the game attracted a lot of attention.

Surya hammered a ball over a short fine leg in the 16th over of MI’s chase that appeared to be a clear boundary. However, Sandeep retreated from his position, executed a flawless dive, and timed it flawlessly while the ball remained in his possession. Surya was out for 55 from 29 balls after the pacer continued sliding on the turf to complete the catch.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, a gifted young player, failed to surpass her first century (124) as Mumbai Indians defeated Rajasthan Royals by six wickets in the final over with three consecutive sixes from Tim David.

With key contributions from Cameron Green (44) and Suryakumar Yadav (55 off 29 balls) in the middle, Mumbai Indians made a comeback. David and Tilak Varma (29 not out) then put an end to the game as the home team completed the goal with three balls remaining.

As MI reached 214 for 4 in 19.3 overs to give captain Rohit Sharma a birthday present, David smashed three consecutive sixes off the first three deliveries of the final over bowled by Jason Holder.
