RR and CSK, there was a moment of disbelief on Twitter and among fans like Maheesh Theekshana when the Dhoni Review System failed to deliver accurate results.

In the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, fans have been flocking to stadiums in large numbers to catch a glimpse of the legendary cricketer MS Dhoni, potentially for one last time. The same was true at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium when the Rajasthan Royals (RR) hosted the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 37 of the tournament. However, what the fans witnessed during the fourth over of the RR innings was not something they were used to seeing every day. The incident involved none other than the man himself – MSD.

It was the third ball of the over, bowled by Maheesh Theekshana at a shortish length at the stumps. Yashasvi Jaiswal, batting on 31 off 12 balls, attempted to sweep the ball but missed it completely. Theekshana and Dhoni immediately appealed for an LBW decision, but the umpire remained unmoved and did not raise his finger.

As Theekshana was about to ask Dhoni to take the Decision Review System (DRS), Dhoni did not even wait for a chat and signalled T, something he usually does when he is supremely confident. However, things did not go in his favor, as the replay showed that the ball had pitched outside the leg stump. While Jaiswal was delighted to see the failure of the “Dhoni Review System,” the two-time World Cup-winning captain, as well as Theekshana, were shocked to see the outcome.

MS Dhoni is one of the most successful and iconic cricketers of all time. He is known for his calm demeanor, astute cricketing brain, and leadership skills. The former Indian captain is considered a master of the DRS, having successfully used it on numerous occasions in international and domestic cricket. However, even the best of the best can have an off day, and that’s what happened with Dhoni in this particular instance.

The incident drew a lot of attention on social media, with fans and experts expressing their surprise and disbelief at Dhoni’s rare failure. Many fans had turned up at the stadium just to see Dhoni in action and were disappointed when he was unable to overturn the umpire’s decision. The Yellove Army, as CSK fans are affectionately called, were in full force, and their disappointment was palpable.

The match itself was a crucial one for both teams, as they were fighting to stay in the top four and qualify for the playoffs. The CSK had won the toss and elected to field first. The RR got off to a good start, with Jaiswal and Liam Livingstone putting on a quickfire opening partnership. However, the CSK bowlers fought back and picked up wickets at regular intervals, restricting the RR to a modest total of 150/7 in their 20 overs.

The CSK, in response, got off to a shaky start, losing their top three batsmen early. However, their middle-order, led by Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis, stabilized the innings and kept the team in the hunt. It was a close game, and the outcome hung in the balance until the very end. In the end, it was CSK who emerged victorious, winning by four wickets with three balls to spare.

While the match was a thrilling one, it was the Dhoni Review System incident that grabbed the headlines. It just goes to show that even the best can have an off day, and that the game of cricket is full of surprises. Dhoni has been an inspiration to millions of cricket fans around the world, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of cricketers.
