Arjun Tendulkar’s lengthy wait to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Mumbai Indians ended on Sunday when he was picked to the playing XI for the match against Kolkata Knight Riders. Fans, retired cricketers, and experts went to social media to wish the young uncapped Indian all-rounder well and provide advice. Even Bollywood’s King, Shah Rukh Khan, came to Twitter to express his thoughts on Arjun’s debut. Despite KKR’s setback in the match, SRK had only positive things to say about the situation.

“As competitive as this IPL is… seeing a friend’s son #ArjunTendulkar take the field brings such happiness and joy.” Best wishes, Arjun, and @sachin_rt, what a proud moment!! “Wow!” tweeted Shah Rukh.

The 23-year-old all-rounder led the Mumbai Indians’ bowling assault with two brilliant overs in which he got the ball to move into the right-handed hitters early in the innings.

He gave up 17 runs while not taking a wicket. KKR batter Venkatesh Iyer struck him for a six and a four, and he went on to score his first IPL century later in the innings.

Following his debut, Arjun and his legendary father Sachin became the first father-son combo to appear in the 15-year history of the IPL, and that too for the same side, after being sighted during the team’s training session on Saturday prior of the game and also in the team dugout on Sunday.

Sachin spent six years with the Mumbai Indians, from 2008 to 2013.

Arjun was selected for the first time by the five-time IPL champions during the 2021 auction at his base price of Rs 20 lakh.

While the Wankhede Stadium is the home field for Arjun and the Mumbai Indians, the young cricketer has relocated to Goa in the second half of 2022 in search of regular playing time on the domestic circuit.
