Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong is on Erik Ten Hag’s radarduring the summer transfer window

Frenkie De Jong

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has a lengthy wish list for this summer’s transfer window. Frenkie de Jong, a midfielder for Barcelona, is reportedly also on Ten Hag’s radar. Despite the fact that acquiring a proven striker is United’s top objective this summer, Ten Hag is interested in Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch midfielder was reportedly on his way to Old Trafford last summer, which is interesting. According to some rumors, United and Barcelona even struck a £63 million contract to sign De Jong.

This wasn’t to be, though, as the talented midfielder chose to remain with the Catalan powerhouses in order to continue competing in the Champions League.

De Jong, however, appears to be close to joining the 13-time Premier League champions.

Due to their time spent together at Ajax, Erik ten Hag and Frenkie de Jong have a wonderful chemistry. In addition, Ten Hag is believed to be a major admirer of his playing style.

Several factors will determine whether United really signs De Jong in the summer.

Given the Catalan club’s financial difficulties and Ten Hag’s preference for a striker, De Jong might provide a problem for United.

The loan agreement for Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst ends at the end of the current campaign. United is reportedly considering Tottenham attacker Harry Kane and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen as a result. Goncalo Ramos of Benfica and Mohammed Kudus are among players on United’s radar. United may not have much money left over for De Jong if they decide to spend big on Kane or Osimhen.

De Jong’s desire for the move is another important consideration. His excellent relationship with Ten Hag and the possibility of playing in the Champions League next season may eventually influence his choice. Additionally, Manchester United is performing significantly better than they were a year ago.

In the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinal on Friday, Seville held United to a 2-2 draw. Despite a fantastic double from loanee Marcel Sabitzer, United lost their two-goal lead in the second half.

When Ten Hag’s team faces Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on April 16, they will be looking to get back on track.
