Former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble expressed his disappointment with the performance of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, particularly with their batting and the way they utilized Adil Rashid.
Despite having high hopes for the team and placing them in his Top-4, Kumble stated that their batting has been a letdown in both matches played so far. He cited their failure to score enough runs in their match against the Rajasthan Royals and their lackluster performance on the bowling front as contributing factors to their struggles.
Kumble shared his thoughts with JioCinema, emphasizing that Sunrisers have a good side with a very capable batting lineup, but they have yet to find their rhythm in the tournament.
Anil Kumble also criticized the way Sunrisers Hyderabad utilized Adil Rashid in their matches and believed that they missed an opportunity to use him effectively against Jos Buttler in their game against the Rajasthan Royals.
Kumble stated that Buttler is known to struggle against leg-spinners early in the innings and felt that Sunrisers missed a trick by not bringing Rashid in earlier. He also noted that Rashid was held back until the first six overs in their match against Lucknow Super Giants despite having a low total to defend.
Kumble suggested that Sunrisers should have used their main spinner more effectively and pointed out that even Washington Sundar was only given one over in the powerplay. He emphasized that Sunrisers need to work on their batting and make improvements in their team strategy going forward.
