Former CSK and MI Stars Fight, Diss Each Other’s Franchises for Losing Starts in IPL 2023

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, two of the most successful teams in Indian Premier League (IPL) annals, both lost their opening matches in the T20 league to Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans, respectively. Fans and former cricket players expressed their opinions on social media in response to the outcomes the two marquee franchises achieved at the league’s beginning. On Twitter, even current stars from MI and CSK sparred while making fun of each other’s previous teams.

Chennai couldn’t compete with Gujarat, the defending champions, as the two sides squared off in the IPL Season 16 opener. Similar to Mumbai, Bengaluru thoroughly outplayed them in their first game of the season.

Mitchell McClenaghan, a former Mumbai Indians pacer, responded to the outcome with a “positive note,” noting that no MI team has ever claimed the IPL championship after winning their first game. A positive observation is that @mipaltan has never claimed a championship after winning the first game. Second Positive all around.

What a pleasure to watch sporting events take place on home turf! Love the return of the @IPL, he wrote. Scott Styris, a former all-rounder for CSK, responded with: “Another positive note… Mumbai also finished last when they lost their first game.”

“On another positive note – on two occasions Mumbai beat CSK in the final and on a third occasion beat CSK dressed as Pune,” McClenaghan replied to Styris’ tweet. The traditional “heavy hitters” in the Indian Premier League are Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, who have dominated the T20 league with their outstanding exploits over the years. Going into the 16th season of the league, both clubs, though, appear to be lacking in several key areas of quality. There is still time for their captain MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma to change things around during this campaign, though.
