At the CONMEBOL headquarters, Pele and Diego Maradona’s statues are next to those of Lionel Messi

Following Argentina’s World Cup victory, Lionel Messi has continued to receive honors.

The 35-year-old Argentine star was given a statue by the body that oversees soccer in South America on Monday. It will be displayed in the CONMEBOL museum next to the statues of legendary players Diego Maradona and Pelé.

During the event prior to the Copa Libertadores draw, Messi also received replicas of the World Cup and the Finalissima trophy, which Argentina won against Italy. Along with him, his teammates and coach Lionel Scaloni received tiny trophies, one of which was the trophy from the Copa America that was won in Brazil in 2021.

Messi stated during the homage, “We are living a very special and beautiful moment, getting a lot of love.” “A South American team winning the World Cup again was long overdue.”

On Thursday in Buenos Aires, Argentina defeated Panama 2-0 in its first international match since taking home the World Cup trophy in Qatar last December. In order to celebrate with its supporters in the rural city of Santiago del Estero, Scaloni’s team will take on Curacao on Tuesday.

Messi has been playing exceptionally well since leading Argentina to their first World Cup victory in Qatar in 2022. He even scored a direct free-kick during a recent game against Panama, contributing to Argentina’s 2-0 win. However, there has been a lot of speculation about his future since his contract with Paris Saint-Germain is coming to an end.

Despite reports of a verbal agreement with PSG, talks seem to have stalled, and there is a possibility of Messi reuniting with his former club, Barcelona. But La Liga president Javier Tebas has stated that Barcelona won’t be able to register new players until they can sort out their financial difficulties.
