Following his vehicle accident in December of last year, Rishabh Pant, the captain of the Delhi Capitals, is making progress in his recuperation. David Warner will take over as team captain if Pant is unable to play in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Head coach Ricky Ponting declared that Pant was the soul and heart of the team at a gathering in New Delhi. He disclosed that as a tribute to the star player, the players might wear Pant’s jersey number on their shirts or caps.
Ponting was quoted by Times Now saying that in his perfect scenario, he would have the person in question sitting alongside him in the dugout during every match. However, if this is not possible, they would like to incorporate him into the team in any way possible.
They suggest having his number on their shirts or caps, to emphasize that he is still their leader even if he is not physically present. The article also mentions that Warner will be replacing Pant as captain, but it has not yet been decided who will replace Pant as the team’s wicket-keeper.
Ponting’s response when questioned about the same was, “We haven’t made a decision on it yet. We’ll make that decision after reviewing the upcoming practice games with Sarfaraz (Khan), who has joined us. That’s a significant gap that Rishabh leaves behind. We have a lot of options with the impact player rule.
The Delhi Capitals finished the previous campaign with seven victories from 14 games, placing them seventh in the standings.
On April 1, they will play their first game against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
