In a statement, the Gujarat Giants explained that they had to replace their all-around player Deandra Dottin in the current Women’s Premier League with Australia’s Kim Garth since they were unable to get her medical clearance in time.

Dottin was previously described as “recovering from a medical condition” by the organization. Dottin tweeted in response, saying, “I sincerely appreciate all the comments, but truth be told, I’m recuperating from nothing but the Holy Ghost anointing thank you #GodIsGood #GodIsInControl.”

Giants clarified their position on Sunday, saying: “Deandra is a world-class talent and a fantastic addition to the team. Sadly, we were unable to secure a medical clearance prior to the season’s deadline; such approvals are necessary for all WPL participants to play.

“We anticipate seeing her on the field again shortly. She will join the Gujarat Giants team in the following seasons, pending approval of her medical report.

Dottin was purchased by Giants in the auction for INR 60 lakh (about US $73,000), with a base price of INR 50 lakh.

On the other side, Garth had not been purchased in the auction previous month. Garth just relocated to Australia after finishing the required paperwork, and he even inked a three-year contract with Melbourne Stars of the WBBL. Although not getting a match, she was a member of the Australia team that won the T20 World Cup in South Africa.

Garth joined the Giants team on Friday but sat out the Giants’ 143-run loss against Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener.
