Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah of India will not play in the IPL in 2023 since he was given the option of having back surgery. Bumrah’s back ailment that kept him out of the T20 World Cup last year is still bothering him, according to ESPNcricinfo, and he may not make it to the World Test Championship final (assuming India qualifies), which gets underway on June 7 at The Oval.

Bumrah is receiving immediate care from the BCCI medical team at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. It is believed that the staff gave him the option of surgery as a result of persistent lower back aches that first appeared as a stress reaction in August of last year.

With the ODI World Cup set to take place in India in October–November, it is anticipated that the BCCI, along with the NCA and Bumrah, will make a definitive decision on the next step soon.

Bumrah has made numerous comeback attempts since suffering a back ailment last August that kept him from competing in the Asia Cup. It has been a long wait for him. Bumrah was selected for India’s T20 World Cup team on September 12, so at first it didn’t appear like a major injury. Bumrah even participated in the final two T20Is of the Australia series on September 23 and 25, demonstrating his level of fitness.

Bumrah did not appear for the first T20I match against South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram, though, three days later. Later, it was discovered that he had had scans, which had discovered a stress-related damage. Bumrah was injured seriously and was later excluded from the T20 World Cup after being transported to NCA the next day.

Bumrah restarted his rehabilitation in November and began bowling towards the middle of December. When the selectors finally included him for the white-ball series against Sri Lanka more than a week after the Indian squad was initially chosen, it appeared like his progress was on the right track.

Bumrah had completed the match simulation exercises at NCA, but he experienced difficulty while working out harder in Bombay at the beginning of January. As scans indicated a new ailment, he was ultimately unable to play in the Australia Tests. The NCA, the Indian team management, and captain Rohit Sharma all urge India not to rush Bumrah back into action until he is fully healthy and capable of playing at his best.
