SLC triples women’s cricket players’ match fees

The match price paid by Sri Lanka Cricket to women’s international players has been increased by three times, and a “winning bonus” has also been added.

Players will now get $750 instead of $250 for each white-ball game. They will also receive an additional $250 if they triumph. Meanwhile, squad members who chose not to participate in the game will get 25% of the match money.

According to a board announcement, the action is a part of Sri Lanka Cricket’s efforts to further advance women’s cricket in the nation and empower female cricketers.

The announcement follows Sri Lanka’s successful opening to the T20 World Cup, in which they stunned the tournament hosts South Africa before defeating Bangladesh on Sunday.
SLC has occasionally come under fire for neglecting to give women’s cricket enough attention, especially during the pandemic when Sri Lanka went without a game from March 2020 to January 2022. Additionally, the increased match cost is still a pittance of what the men’s national team is compensated. Their most recent contracts stated that they were paid $3000 for T20Is and $4000 for ODIs.

Even yet, the increase in match costs is significant, especially in view of Sri Lanka’s current economic problems.
