Mohammed Siraj, an Indian pacer, topped the ICC rankings for ODI bowlers on Wednesday, demonstrating his quick ascension in international cricket. Siraj overtook Josh Hazlewood of Australia and Trent Boult of New Zealand to take the top spot among ODI bowlers for the first time. Siraj’s performance in the ODI series at home earlier this month against Sri Lanka and New Zealand demonstrated just how much the right-armer has advanced in recent years. Siraj’s performance over the past 12 months has been flawless.

Last year, India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey pushed Siraj to improve specific facets of his game, and the additional work the vivacious fast put in has paid off.

Siraj led the team in wickets taken during the three-game series against Sri Lanka with nine, and he followed it up with a four-wicket haul in the first game of the just concluded series against New Zealand.

With just two rating points separating him from Hazlewood at the top of the list, Siraj ascends to the top spot among ODI bowlers with 729 rating points.

After India’s series rout of New Zealand, when questioned about the young pacer Siraj, captain Rohit Sharma was all praise for him.

Rohit said, “He has done incredibly well; he knows what the team expects from him.

“Come take the new ball, swing the ball, and get wickets quickly. He has such great skill, even in the middle innings. He improves with each game he plays, “The captain stated.

Following the conclusion of India’s home series against the Kiwis, fellow Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has moved up 11 spots to 32nd overall on the latest list of ODI bowlers, and there has been significant movement at the top of the batter rankings as well.

Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, still holds a commanding lead in the standings for ODI batters, but three players from India are now vying for the top spot.

The star performer is in-form opener Shubman Gill, who moves up a staggering 20 spots to sixth overall after a magnificent double hundred and century at home against New Zealand.

The seasoned Virat Kohli drops to seventh position after a lackluster series against New Zealand, while Rohit moves up two spots to tie for eighth after his quick-fire hundred against the Kiwis in Indore. Gill advances ahead of Kohli.
