In a joint statement, the Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams vehemently denied the accusations made against captain Manpreet Singh by former men’s team coach Sjoerd Marijne. According to a story in The Indian Express, the 48-year-old former Dutch player claims in his soon-to-be-published book, “Will Power,” that captain Manpreet allegedly instructed a player to “stop playing so brilliantly because his pals were not able to get into the team.” Marijne reportedly added, “I don’t know if Manpreet had said such as a joke, but that made me so furious.” to the newspaper.

This assertion by Marijne has been categorically denied by the Indian hockey teams. “We have seen some unsettling allegations in the news today from Mr. Sjoerd Marijne, the former head coach of our teams. We have gathered to express our profound disappointment in his use of our private information and baseless charges. He has exploited our time spent under his tutelage to promote his book at the expense of our reputations, the statement stated.

“His duty of care as a coach has been completely violated by this. Additionally, it makes all Indian athletes, including myself, feel defenseless in such circumstances.

The teams are currently “pursu[ing] legal remedies against Mr. Sjoerd Marijne and the publishers of the book,” the statement added.

“We would all like to collectively ask Mr. Sjoerd Marijne if there is any evidence that an accusation was made to Hockey India or the Sports Authority of India at the time any of the alleged incidents occurred while he was in charge. We checked with the authorities and there is no record of such a complaint, “the sentence included

“The Indian National Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams stand side by side and will stand up for our integrity, which he has called into question. The integrity of any member of our team will never be compromised for the benefit of anybody else’s personal gain because our country, team, and the game of hockey are our top priorities as a group. We are currently taking legal action against Mr. Sjoerd Marijne and the disputed book’s publishers, Harper Collins.

Marijne stated in an interview with The Indian Express that his goal was “not to hurt anyone, but to let people know the scenario you are dealing with as a coach and what happens behind the scenes.” Prior to taking over as head coach of the women’s squad, Marine was the men’s team’s coach for India. The Indian women’s team under his direction placed fourth at the Olympics in Tokyo.
